The Austin Police Department is seeking assistance in locating a suspect involved in a jewelry robbery at a Barber Shop. On Monday, Jan. 6, the victim was outside of the store located at 13717 Burnet Road Bedeck Barber Shop, near his vehicle, when the suspect approached him on foot. The suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim's jewelry. The victim surrendered his jewelry, and the suspect fled the scene in the same direction he was seen approaching from.

The suspect physically assaulted one employee, followed by pulling out a firearm and demanding cash from another employee.

The Llano County Sheriff's Office responded to the discovery of two deceased individuals in a Lake Village Residence. On March 5 at 5:19 p.m., deputies responded to a Buchana Lake Village in Tow Texas. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies entered the residence and located the two deceased individuals. Deputies immediately put a perimeter around the scene for investigation.

The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck will be coming to Austin this weekend. The successful interactive pop-up inspired by the iconic Japanese character Hello Kitty will be making a stop in Austin on Saturday March 8. The Cafe truck will be located at Barton Creek Square from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.The iconic all pink cafe truck is currently on its 2025 U.S. tour and will be celebrating Hello Kitty's 50th anniversary and the truck's 10th anniversary.

The Austin Fire Department responded to a scene where garbage truck caught fire within its garbage compartment Thursday morning. Just before 7:00 a.m. at the 7100 block Brodie Lane, a hand line and aerial master stream are being used to extinguish the truck fire. The fire has been extinguished according to AFD. Crews will remain on scene assisting with clean up and dumped trash debris. There are no reports of injuries, and the cause of the fire has not been disclosed.

Drivers in Austin will soon notice changes on I-35 between Holly Street and SH 71/Ben White Boulevard according to the Texas Department of Transportation. TxDOT will be moving forward with the implementation of the I-35 Capital Express Central project which will result in the permanent closure of the MLK Boulevard exit. The I-35 Capital Express Central project, which was followed by the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard bridge reconstruction, originally began in October 2024.

The Austin Police Department has released data showing the positive effects of the Sixth Street Safety Plan implementation. The plan was originally introduced in December of 2024. As part of this plan, APD initially opened Sixth Street to vehicular traffic on Thursday and Sunday evenings. After the initial launch, the traffic management plan was modified to include opening the street to vehicular traffic on Friday and Saturday evenings.

On Monday, Feb. 3, the Lower Colorado River Authority announced two drought responses that will impact its water costumers. The LCRA moved from Stage 1 to Stage 2 of its drought response with increased restrictions for costumers. The river authority also specified that any water from the Highland Lakes will not be available to most agricultural customers in Colorado, Wharton and Matagorda counties in 2025. Water from the lakes has not been available for customers since 2022.
