Neutrals exchanged for bright colors, dainty jewelry swapped with statement-making shells—the summer season comes with maximalism a plenty. This time of the year allows for an excess of kitsch and an affinity for a theme (if tiny fish motifs haven’t made their way to your social media feeds yet, let this be a PSA that many have coined summer 2025 as “sardine summer“).

My family has an ongoing bit about how I came out of the womb as a woman with particular taste. Growing up, my mom wasn’t allowed to choose my outfits. Instead, I meticulously styled everything that went onto my body beginning at the ripe age of two. I’ll always be happy to have inherited my mom’s ability to laugh at herself and the way she prioritizes her friendships, but perhaps most of all—I do owe my career to it—I’m glad I inherited her appreciation for style.
