A historically Black and brown dance company is set to perform for the first time in Charlotte this week. The Philadelphia Dance Company, PHILADANCO!, is scheduled to bring its ensemble to Charlotte’s Knight Theater on May 28 for a rare one-night-only show. The performance will feature a diverse arrangement of works rooted in Black tradition, blending various dance styles and contemporary themes.

Crav’n Caribbean, located inside the City Kitch at 2200 Thrift Road, is a Jamaican comfort food restaurant that specializes in “ja’bachi,” a fusion of hibachi-style dishes featuring classic Jamaican flavors.

Live Nation recently announced a sale called Ticket To Summer on May 21 to see more than 40 major artists at a discount. The announcement is timely as summer concert lineups heat up, some with prices in the hundreds. Tickets will each be priced at just $30. Artists include Halsey, Nelly, Leon Bridges, Kidz Pop Kids and more. The sale includes more than 1,000 concerts, and buyers are encouraged to act fast when the sale goes live.

Monopoly Lifesized opened in Charlotte at Blume Studios recently. An interactive experience, the giant version of the classic board game Monopoly combines elements of escape room gameplay, chance, skill and collaboration for teams to compete against one another. It is set to run through July 26. I visited on a Friday evening with a group of three friends. Here’s what I thought. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a Monopoly board come to life.

As Amaya Woodley stood near the check-in counter one Friday afternoon between classes at her cycling studio, she felt overwhelming pride and a tinge of sadness. A new fitness concept opened recently near Charlotte’s University area. Spin City Dance Studio, a pole-dancing fitness space, held its grand opening on May 2 at 9539 Pinnacle Drive. The 4,655-square-foot space offers classes for various skill levels, including pole-free classes focused on body appreciation and dance skills. Pole fitness is a nontraditional workout that combines aerial acrobatics, strength training and showmanship.
