1. IntroductionSome individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder engage in challenging behaviors. These challenging behaviors can manifest in a variety of ways, including self-injurious behavior (e.g., hitting or biting oneself, headbanging) and aggression (e.g., hitting, scratching, or biting others). More specifically, the prevalence of self-injurious behavior and aggression among individuals with autism spectrum disorder is 27.7% and 25%, respectively [1,2].
