    The United Progressive Alliance Party (UPA) will now go to polls in 2027 with a new livery, symbol and slogan. A meeting by the party’s National Executive Council officials in Kisii Wednesday resolved a radical rebranding of the outfit to make it more accommodative. The party is mostly associated with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi. Party officials hinted Matiangi would jet back the country in a fortnight to get officially launch his bid.

    Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has hinted that he would challenge Kisii Governor Simba Arati, his political protege, for governorship in 2027. Onyonka said by now there is no credible candidate willing to wrestle the seat from Arati. “If there is none ready to come and end the problems bedeviling Kisii, am here and willing,” Onyonka told Kahawa Tungu by phone. Senator Onyonka is son of the late Dr. Zachary Onyonka.

    Authorities in Kisii say at least five people were killed Sunday when a rickety storey structure came tumbling down on family homes in Itierio, Suneka, Bonchari. By late Sunday rescue and disaster teams were combing through the rubble in search for more survivors and bodies The three storey building was under construction when it suddenly collapsed. Witnesses said some workers on still on site when it collapsed. Teams carrying rescue operations said they fear more people were still trapped.

    Security agencies in Mombasa and Nairobi counties, acting on tip, arrested two suspects for drug trafficking. In Mombasa, Shee Hussein was seized Sunday from Magaoni area in Msambweni with 200 grammes of heroin. The anti-narcotic detectives had pounced in the notorious suspect while aboard a public service vehicle. “A quick search revealed 200 grams of heroin stashed hidden in his left trouser pocket,” police said.
