Wearing clashing colors. Pink and green. Orange, blue, and grey. “The Daily” newspaper. Let’s support student writers! Orange juice. Nothing quite like a cold glass of OJ. Or a mimosa, your choice. If you want your life to look different by the end of the year, something has to change. Your task is to figure out what. Early bedtimes.

Friendship is objectively a huge inconvenience. Relationships are built on effort, which inevitably requires time, can create burdens, and disrupt your plans. I just want to watch this movie for the thousandth time — in peace. It’s Slack notifications. And then Outlook emails and Teams chats and work-related texts to my personal phone and . . .

In late September of this year, I was standing in the Dawg Pack section of the UW vs. Northwestern football game with my younger brother Jim and my slightly rowdy, football-oriented friends. We were crushing the Wildcats, and the Seattle sun was shining ever so brightly. After every play, the freshmen next to me cheered joyously, explaining to me that they had never been to a football game with this many people and further expressing their eagerness to start at UW the following Wednesday.

You need to vote. Even if you are a Washington citizen or a California resident like myself and anticipate the outcome in the electoral college for the state, there is no excuse for not participating in government elections. I have met too many University of Washington students this quarter who mentioned that they are not voting, and, boy, it’s certainly frustrating. I live in Washington, and whoever wins the presidential election won’t impact me.
