More than 140 Scouts and Venturers from The Hills and Hawkesbury are in Queensland for the 26th Australian Jamboree, providing them an unforgettable 10 days at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park. The Jamboree, from January 6-15, attracts Scouts from across Australia and even overseas. There are 146 members from 15 Groups across the Hills and the Hawkesbury, including Scouts and Venturer Scouts aged from 11 to 18, supported by Rover Scouts (aged 18-25) and adult Leaders.

Remembering back to my childhood in Britain during the 1940s & 50s after the Second World War, life was hard for many. Jobs were scarce, wages low and many goods were in short supply whilst rationing of foodstuffs were still happening. My parents, at Christmas time, would try to add a bit of a festive atmosphere to our home. Paper chains were created and strung across the ceiling of the lounge room as were crepe paper ribbons which had been twisted.
