WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) -- Events were held across the Chicago area on Sunday ahead of Memorial Day on Monday. There was a solemn tribute to the nation's fallen heroes as people gathered in Wheaton Sunday afternoon for an annual wreath laying ceremony. Gold Star family members were in attendance, with some of them carrying roses, as well as representatives from several branches of the military. "You guys gotta remember the people that gave their life," Vietnam war veteran Jeffrey Monahan said.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The unofficial start to summer got off to a chilly start on Saturday, but that didn't stop people from packing the city streets on Memorial Day weekend. "It was nice, said Mike Newman who was visiting from Indiana. [We] brought jackets, the sun was out and it was perfect. I'd say as long as you were prepared for it."The holiday weekend was jam packed with action in Chicago. The popular Sueños festival made its return to Grant Park. Headliners included Shakira and Peso Pluma.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago police officer was hurt during traffic stop Saturday evening on the West Side, ABC7 was told. CPD could be seen investigating for more than three hours in an area in West Garfield Park. The scene of the traffic stop appeared to be near West Madison Street and South Kilpatrick Avenue. It was not immediately clear if shots were fired by police during the incident. Chicago police were expected to give an update about the incident and whether any officers were hospitalized.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- The winners of a $349 million Mega Millions jackpot has come forward and claimed their prize. The winning ticket was sold at Casey's General Store in Cortland, Illinois. The winners declined to give their name and was identified by the Illinois Lottery only as "Blessed.""We took a chance and bought a single Quick Pick ticket," the winners said. "We're absolutely ecstatic and feel incredibly blessed.

CHATHAM, Ill. (WLS) -- Four students were killed and six others injured when an SUV drove through a downstate after-school camp on Monday afternoon, officials said. Illinois State Police said Tuesday morning two seven-year-old girls, an 18-year-old girl and an 18-year-old were killed. Six other children were injured and one remains in critical condition, police said.
