To explore the relationship between different scales of plant biodiversity and spatial variability of productivity, we used observational (i.e., pre-treatment) data from 83 natural and semi-natural grassland ecosystems in 18 countries across 6 continents (see Fig. 2 and Supplementary Table 1) that are part of the Nutrient Network collaborative experiment (NutNet)28.
