    On May 22, this daily reported that National University Vice-Chancellor Prof ASM Amanullah had been attacked by a group of students demanding automatic pass in their degree (pass) examination held in 2022—three years ago. The NU had already permitted grace marks to this batch of students, whose studies had been affected by the COVID pandemic and political unrests in the country. Still, they could not procure the pass mark, so poor were their results.

He may have all the frustrations in the world but his sense of responsibility as the head of the government must outweigh every other emotion, consideration and conclusion.

    After removing the oppressive and corrupt Hasina government, we were supposed to restore democracy, end all sorts of discrimination, give the country honest and accountable governance, freedom, rights, an efficient and corruption-free bureaucracy, and many other things. But are we doing so? We were angry at Sheikh Hasina because she subverted democracy, establishing which was our dream from the very inception of Bangladesh. We rejected her because of the arrogance and arbitrariness of her person.

    Reform of political parties is of urgent need Since Prof Muhammad Yunus took over as the head of the interim government, reforms have been very high on the national agenda. The whole country wants it. What is heartening is that even political parties, who are usually opposed to anything that does not originate from them, have worked closely with all the reform commissions and are now engaged in reaching a consensus.
