Hearing-impaired listeners struggle to understand speech in noise, even when using cochlear implants (CIs) or hearing aids. Successful listening in noisy environments depends on the brain's ability to organize a mixture of sound sources into distinct perceptual streams (i.e., source segregation). In normal-hearing listeners, temporal coherence of sound fluctuations across frequency channels supports this process by promoting grouping of elements belonging to a single acoustic source.

The ambient noise model of isotropic fields is not applicable to shallow-located platforms in the deep ocean, and the conventional methods for estimating the sound-ray-arrival-grazing-angle of targets do not account for the effects of surface noise. Therefore, target parameter estimation methods based on a single vector hydrophone are explored in this study. The approach used in this study integrates the hydroacoustic physical model, signal processing method, and ocean ambient.

Global active noise control (ANC) systems reduce noise over the entire car cabin with robust performance even as the human head moves; however, they have not been implemented in real-world applications. A robust error sensing strategy is proposed in this paper that is based on which a feasible global ANC system is realized in an electric car, and real-time ANC experiments demonstrate its effectiveness.

In June 1987, an international conference1 was convened in Lerici, Italy, on “Sea Surface Sound,” a topic which beforehand had received little attention from the geophysics community. By the conclusion of the meeting, although many questions remained, the consensus was that naturally generated sound in the ocean had something to do with bubbles created by breaking waves.
