1 INTRODUCTION Parasites often exert significant selection pressure on their hosts, leading to the evolution of counter-adaptations in the host aimed at minimizing the parasites' impact. This dynamic fuels an arms race, resulting in reciprocal co-adaptations in both interaction partners (Dawkins & Krebs, 1979; Tellier et al., 2014).
