Max Christie has had a rough couple of years. Under Darvin Ham’s Los Angeles Lakers tenure, he barely got any minutes and fell out of favor by the end of the season. He was consistently getting DNPs and didn’t scratch the playoff rotation. This brought the ire of many fans, as well as many within the Lakers organization. LA needed an effective point-of-attack defender next to Austin Reaves spanning back to last year.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ bench depth has been a significant concern throughout the season. This is especially true of the frontcourt. Due to injuries, the Lakers’ big-man rotation has been limited to Anthony Davis, Jaxson Hayes, and Christian Koloko. Hayes has been an effective backup to Davis. At the very least, he can use his athleticism to fill up bench minutes effectively. But Hayes has been spending time on and off the injury report.

From 2006-2023, the Kings missed the playoffs a record-setting 16 straight times. They are no stranger to losing either.
