Max Christie has had a rough couple of years. Under Darvin Ham’s Los Angeles Lakers tenure, he barely got any minutes and fell out of favor by the end of the season. He was consistently getting DNPs and didn’t scratch the playoff rotation. This brought the ire of many fans, as well as many within the Lakers organization. LA needed an effective point-of-attack defender next to Austin Reaves spanning back to last year.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ bench depth has been a significant concern throughout the season. This is especially true of the frontcourt. Due to injuries, the Lakers’ big-man rotation has been limited to Anthony Davis, Jaxson Hayes, and Christian Koloko. Hayes has been an effective backup to Davis. At the very least, he can use his athleticism to fill up bench minutes effectively. But Hayes has been spending time on and off the injury report.

The Sacramento Kings are no stranger to missing the playoffs. In fact, the franchise currently holds the record across all major sports for most consecutive postseasons missed. From 2006-2023, the Kings missed the playoffs a record-setting 16 straight times. They are no stranger to losing either. During this 16-year span, the Kings drafted players like Nik Stauskas, Quincy Douby, Thomas Robinson, and Shanghai Sharks legend Jimmer Fredette in the lottery.

It was less than a year ago that Tyrese Haliburton had broken into superstardom. He was breaking ankles and assist records while making the 20-point/15-assist line look like a cakewalk. Tyrese was also well-liked, humble, and genuinely seemed driven to succeed. It was difficult to root against him. His profile shot up massively after breakout performances in the 2023 NBA In-Season Tournament.

The Los Angeles Lakers are 10-4, their best record through 14 games since the 2020-2021 NBA season. More importantly, the Lakers are currently the third seed in a historically competitive Western Conference. Most imortantly, they’ve done all of this without a single major roster change since last season. The only exception is the drafting of rookie stud Dalton Knecht and fan-favorite Bronny James.

The 2024-2025 NBA season began with a bang for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers hadn’t started a season 3-0 since the 2010-2011 season. What was more impressive was the three teams the Lakers beat: the Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, and Sacramento Kings. All three had made big trades or acquisitions over the offseason. All three are considered playoff contenders. At the time, JJ Redick was being compared to Hall-of-Fame coach and Laker legend Phil Jackson.

On Tuesday evening, NBA history was made. In an opening-night matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves, LeBron James and Bronny James shared the court for two minutes and 41 seconds, becoming the first father-son duo to share an NBA court. This was a monumental achievement for the James family. At the same time, these are two players in very different parts of their careers. LeBron James is breaking record after record.

In 2022, the Cleveland Browns made a major move. They traded away three first-rounders and a few lower-round picks to the Houston Texans. In exchange, the Texans gave them embattled star quarterback Deshaun Watson. Cleveland fully guaranteed a five-year, 230 million dollar deal for Watson, a move sent shockwaves through the league. Not only had it never been done before, but it has also not been done since. Even 2-time MVP Lamar Jackson was “balked” when Watson requested it.
