1. IntroductionSome railway track infrastructure requires disproportionate maintenance expenditure. Examples include plain track with a history of poor track geometry, transition zones, such as from ballast to slab track, on to and off bridges, and over under-track crossings, and switches and crossings. Monitoring the track movement in such areas may provide information on the nature and cause of poor behaviour.
