As someone who has lived with chronic pain for ten years I worry. I worry about my health and future, I worry about my ability to be fully present for my kids, and I worry about my spouse and the load he carries. When my pain first became chronic his elevated role in our family became critical. He did more driving, more cooking, more laundry. More, more, more.

Employers are facing a mounting challenge to address chronic pain in the workplace. I am one of 50 million Americans who live in chronic pain, having experienced a rare nerve condition for nearly 10 years. New cases of chronic pain outpace diabetes, depression, and high blood pressure. Of those individuals, up to 40 percent of them are in the workforce.
