A Forres company specialising in solar panels has acquired another big name in heating systems, making it one of the biggest renewable energy companies in ScotlandAES Solar has today (9 August 2024) announced the acquisition of Black Isle Renewables. Established in 2010, the Dingwall-based company installs high-quality ground source and air source heat pumps and exhaust air units from major manufacturers, servicing a large area across the North of Scotland and Western Isles.

More than 20 members of staff at Forres company AES Solar are gearing up for a sponsored bike ride to raise funds for health and wellbeing charity The Oxygen Works. The team will set off from either Aviemore, Grantown or Aberlour alongside friends and family en route to the finish line at Spey Bay on 31 August. Money raised will help to fund transformative support services for individuals living with long-term and complex health conditions.

A new farm shop selling a wide and varied range of local produce and crafts has opened in Rafford. Marcassie Farm Shop, which is just before the village as you head out of Forres towards Dallas, will cater to a mix of locals, tourists and anyone that enjoys locally-made fare. The new outlet is run by Gulli Skåtun, and doubles up as a reception area for the six lodges on site, and event venue.

A colourful and uplifting mural depicting the flora and fauna of Forres’s largest green space is expected to be completed by the end of the weekThe artwork is being painted on the wall of the building at the eastern end of Grant Park, which houses Mather’s Ice Cream, the Forres Harriers and the council-run toilets. The artwork is the design of Sathya Schlösser, who also illustrated the book Fantastic Forres, written by her partner Ewen Watson.

A fitness group are hoping to ‘jog’ people’s memories about their weekly meet-ups and get more people to start, or continue, jogging regardless of their ability. Forres Jog Scotland was formed around 17 years ago and and at its peak, had around 100 members. As people gained confidence to run alone and with the obvious interruption of the Covid-19 pandemic, numbers have dwindled and organisers are appealing for new members to come forward.

Forres Academy pupil Holly Innes was chosen as the town’s Highland Games junior chieftain . The S6 pupil accompanied drum major Mike Munro, at the 96th games today in Grant Park, Forres. Holly, who works part-time at Brodie Countryfare, was put forward by headteacher Jan Sinclair. She was chosen for her commitment to schoolwork. Mike has been involved with the Forres and District Pipe Band for several decades. She is pictured here in the sunken gardens all dressed up for the occasion.

A brand new animated timeline, depicting the history of Forres has been launched to accompany a hugely successful local children’s book. Fantastic Forres was launched in July last year. It is a 28-page historical story of the town dating back 12,000 years to the Stone Age. See Children’s book with a fantastic insight into Forres is launchedWritten by local musician and teacher Ewen Watson, and artist Sathya Schlösser, the book has sold nearly 1000 copies in its first year.

The historic Dallas Dhu Distillery is to re-open as a working distillery and state-of-the-art visitor attraction. Aceo, a prominent company in the Scotch whisky industry, has unveiled today that they will be reopening the Victorian distillery, built in 1898. The company aims to bring the distillery back into production for the first time since 1983. Managing Director of Aceo, Edward Odim said: “The Aceo Team are thrilled to be reopening the historic Dallas Dhu Distillery.

An eclectic Scottish line-up of bands provided Forres festival-goers with 10 hours of live music, culminating in the Bay City Rollers. Earlier in the evening we heard from Reliever, Be Like Pablo, Tweed, Clanadonia, Torridon, Dave Finnigan’s Commitments, before the big act finished off the evening. More than a thousand people settled down for the day in Mosset Park, home of the Forres Mechanics.
