    Iowa City Liberty golfer Lila Bowman and Solon golfer Ryder Laing were voted by readers as the Iowa City Press-Citizen's Athletes of the Week for April 28-May 4. Bowman was named girls Athlete of the Week with 53% of the vote. Bowman earned a second-place finish for the Iowa City Liberty golf team against Iowa City High and Iowa City West on April 28. The sophomore shot an 88 over 18 holes at the Brown Deer Golf Club. Laing was named boys Athlete of the Week with 57% of the vote.

    Iowa City Liberty girls long jumper Alexi Thigpen and Iowa City Regina boys soccer player Matt Colony were voted by readers as the Iowa City Press-Citizen’s Athletes of the Week for April 21-27. Thigpen earned girls Athlete of the Week with 70% of the vote. Iowa City West soccer player Amaia Martinez placed second with 28% of the vote. Thigpen placed fifth in the long jump at the Drake Relays. The Liberty junior recorded a leap of 17 feet, 7 inches.

    The 2025 Drake Relays brought out the best high school athletes from across the state. The four-day track and field spectacle featured a crop of elite talent from the Iowa City area. Here are the top performances from all six Iowa City-area schools. Clear Creek AmanaSenior Landon Prince was the only Iowa City-area athlete to become a Drake Relays champion, and he did it twice. He became the sixth boys athlete ever to sweep the throwing events in the shot put and discus on the Blue Oval.
