Tay Seals exploded off the blocks and dashed down the straight path in lane four. Like a comet trailing fire, he blazed towards the finish line on the Blue Oval. His white and blue spikes powered his speed as he went stride-for-stride with the stacked talent in the 100-meter field. On April 25, the Clear Creek Amana speedster crossed the line with a school-record mark of 10.64 to take home fourth place at the Drake Relays.

Iowa City Regina boys soccer player Evan White and girls soccer player Maria Monestina were voted by readers as Press-Citizen's Athletes of the Week for April 14-20. White earned boys Athlete of the Week with 51% of the vote. Clear Creek Amana soccer player Abdala Ebdala placed second with 24% of the vote. White was a scoring threat during Iowa City Regina's 10-0 shutout win over Bellevue on April 14. The junior Regal scored three goals and tacked on an assist against the Comets.

She swung her arms outward before she dropped herself backwards onto the sandpit at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The California native became an Olympic gold medalist in the women’s long jump with a leap of 7.10 meters. Like a Lambeau Leap in Green Bay, she jumped into the stands and hugged her husband, Hunter Woodhall.

The Drake Relays begins on April 24 and concludes on April 26. Before high school action picks up in Des Moines, the top track and field athletes from the Iowa City area recorded great performances. Notably, the Iowa City West boys track and field team clinched a team title at the Forwald-Coleman Relays on April 17. High school soccer, tennis and golf have also continued to deliver standout results.
