On Wednesday, the city of Ruidoso held a press conference to announce that it will be hosting the Ironman in July 2026. The Ironman 70.3 is one of a series of triathlons organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), culminating in the World Championship race. As with other triathlons, there is a swimming, biking and running portion of the race. The 70.3 in the name refers to the total distance an athlete will travel in the race: 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run.

On Thursday, the Roswell Lady Coyotes softball team hosted the Carlsbad Cavegirls for a doubleheader. The Lady Coyotes entered this matchup with a 5-11 record and are 1-1 in district play. Their last matchup was a doubleheader against Hobbs at home on Tuesday, where they lost the first game 15-8 and won the second game 9-3.

For the last couple of months, the Southern New Mexico All-Star Showcase Little League football group has been helping youth learn tackle football. Headed by Josue Macias, the league aims to help the youth develop their abilities and skills in tackle football and give them better opportunities to get into better programs. The program hosts children aged 4-13 and has five teams: 5U, 6U, 8U, 10U and 12U teams. They hope to add a 9U, 11U and 13U team in the future.

On Saturday, the Golden Gloves New Mexico/Colorado franchise held its regional tournament at Roswell High School. The New Mexico/Colorado franchise is one of 32 franchises in the United States that are part of the Golden Gloves. Every year, they send a group of kids to compete in the nationals to have a chance to be the best Golden Gloves team in the U.S. To help determine who goes to nationals, they have different tournaments with fighters competing to advance.

On the weekend of April 5, Roswell High athlete Matthew Castillo became the first and only athlete in New Mexico to become a four-time state champion in powerlifting. Castillo has always been active. He played football for the majority of his life and started CrossFit at the age of nine. He said playing football was fun, and he wanted to be like his older cousin and brother, so he joined CrossFit.

The Rockets entered the game with a 5-10 record, while the Coyotes entered the game with an 8-10 record. The last game for both teams was the first crosstown rivalry game at Roswell High, which took place the day before this game. The Coyotes would win that game with a score of 7-1.

Goddard athlete Naomi Smith signed her letter of intent on Thursday at the Goddard High School big gym to attend Adams State University on a golf scholarship. Naomi Smith played golf for four years at Goddard High School, becoming a multiple all-state qualifier and member of an all-state championship team. She will attend Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, on a golf scholarship to study for a public speaking degree.
