By Marcus Fuller Orono guard Nolan Groves announced Saturday night that he will play college basketball for Texas Tech. He announced his commitment during a visit to Lubbock, Texas, this weekend. Groves, the 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year in Minnesota, recently reopened his recruitment and on Monday, received offers from the Gophers, Wisconsin and Texas Tech. In his last high school game, Groves scored 29 points in an 87-85 win against Totino-Grace in the Class 3A state tournament third place game.

Western Michigan transfer Chansey Willis Jr. put the Gophers in a better spot with point guard depth Monday, when he committed on Instagram to play for new coach Niko Medved next season. A 6-2, 190-pound junior and all-Mid American Conference second-team pick, Willis Jr. averaged 16.8 points, 5.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds this season.
