    By Marcus Fuller East Ridge guard Cedric Tomes on Saturday became the first local high school player to commit to new Gophers men's basketball coach Niko Medved's program. Tomes, who also had offers from Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma and St. Louis, had a breakout season for East Ridge while averaging 27.3 points, including 40-point games against Totino-Grace, Osseo and White Bear Lake.

    By Marcus Fuller Stephens, a 6-3 sophomore guard, spent two seasons with the Terrapins, including playing seven games in the 2024-25 season. His commitment was first reported by 247Sports on Friday. Two seasons ago, Stephens redshirted at Maryland after having surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon in his knee. The Riverside, Calif., native started his college career at Loyola Marymount.
