On Dec. 16, 2024, the Economic Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into a complaint filed by The Home Depot, the V.I. Police Department reported. The investigation revealed that a former employee identified as Sheba Young was seen on surveillance exiting The Home Depot store with a Whirlpool refrigerator valued at $1,288, knowing that she did not pay for the item nor did anyone else.

The V.I. Public Works Department announced that all but two VITRAN bus operators and utility workers on St. Croix called in sick to work on Thursday and Friday in what “appears to be a coordinated action.”According to a DPW press release, the department was not informed of the apparent job action in advance and does not know the reasons behind it. The Source made multiple calls on Friday afternoon to the V.I. Workers Union — which represents VITRAN workers — but the calls went unanswered.

Some years the passion fruit flowers all dry up on the vine, but this year we are grateful for a yard filled with ripening fruit. The passion fruits aren’t ready to eat until they turn pale yellow and drop off the vine, so we will have to be patient. My husband and I did share a ripe one last week, and it was delicious. I love the sweet smell of the pulp as much as the taste, and carefully save some of the seeds for planting more. The tamarind tree is also filled with fruit.
