3.2. Synoptic Atmospheric DynamicsThe synoptic atmospheric conditions for the defined precipitation classes are represented by the composites of the MSLP and geopotential at 500 hPa (Z500) in Figure 3. These composites correspond to the average of all-time fields identified for each of the precipitation classes defined in the previous section. The appearance of a prominent Azores anticyclone that stretches towards the British Isles can be observed in Figure 3a–c for C0 (no precipitation).
