Imperative train system After decades of delay, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon’s commitment to complete the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) is not without urgency. Dizon said the government is racing to finish segments of the 147-kilometer line, particularly the stretch from Metro Manila to Malolos and Clark before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. steps down. The portion from Manila to Clark is now “a little over 50 percent” complete, he said.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved a rate hike that will allow the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to collect an additional P28.29 billion from consumers over seven years. The decision, made during the ERC’s 1125th Regular Commission Meeting last 26 March, covers NGCP’s Fourth Regulatory Period from 2016 to 2022.

DoubleDragon Corp., the real estate firm led by tycoons Edgar “Injap” Sia II and Tony Tan Caktiong, has approved the acquisition of a 35 percent stake in MerryMart Consumer Corp. for P1.28 billion. In a stock exchange disclosure on Wednesday, DoubleDragon said its purchase of 2.66 billion ordinary shares of MerryMart, priced at P0.48 per share, starts its transition into an investment holding company.

Aboitiz Power Corp., the holding company for the Aboitiz Group’s energy-related investments, has confirmed the disconnection of 46 megawatts (MW) of diesel-fired facilities in Cebu from the national grid. In a disclosure made on Wednesday, AboitizPower said that its subsidiary, Therma Power-Visayas, Inc. (TPVI), received confirmation from the National Grid Corp.
