Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich made a brave request before being released from a Russian jail - an interview with Vladimir Putin. Gershkovich, 32, was among 16 Westerners freed from Russian custody in the biggest prisoner exchange since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. Others freed in the group were former US marine Paul Whelan and US resident Vladimir Kara-Murza, a Russian-British political activist and journalist .
