Carolina Country Music Festival (CCMF) fans preparing for a weekend out in their chicest shoes may want to reconsider. With rainy conditions expected through the weekend, the festival is preparing for muddy grounds. “We’re thinking it’s more of a Crocs and flip flops weekend!” the City of Myrtle Beach wrote on Facebook. On Thursday afternoon, the city’s Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism Department spread mulch to level festival grounds and soak up this weekend’s rain.

The Grand Strand might see odd skylines as a dust plume travels across the Atlantic all the way from Africa spreads across the southeast today. As with most Saharan dust clouds, most of the dust will disperse south of the Palmetto State. “It’ll be on the fringes of it. I’m not sure it’s going to be all that noticeable,” said AccuWeather senior meteorologist Tom Bacon.

The Food and Drug Administration has updated a salmonella recall on tomatoes in three southern states to a Class I, the most severe category in which “a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”Williams Farms Repack LLC first announced the recall on tomatoes possibly contaminated by salmonella in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia on May 2, and the FDA identified the recall as a Class I situation on May 28.

The South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s latest round of restaurant inspections around the Grand Strand found flies and hair in food, sewage coming up through the floor and more. Multiple facilities temporarily halted service pending SCDA approval. In general, SCDA gives restaurants scoring between 88 and 100 points A grades, restaurants scoring 78-87 points B grades and restaurants scoring 77 points or fewer C grades.
