1 IntroductionAgroforestry has been defined as ‘the practice of deliberately integrating woody vegetation (trees or shrubs) with crop and/or animal systems to benefit from the resulting ecological and economic interactions’ (Burgess and Rosati, 2018). In many places, it is a traditional land use system, and it is estimated that globally there is 1 billion ha of agricultural land with more than 10% tree cover (Zomer et al., 2014), i.e., about 7% of the global land area.
