The Health Resources and Services Administration projects a 50% increase in demand for geriatricians by 2030. Allegheny Health Network appointed two chief nursing officers to three of its hospitals. Heather Ambrose, DNP, RN, will be the CNO of Pittsburgh-based AHN Allegheny General Hospital starting June 23. Jill Muir, DNP, RN, will become the CNO of Erie, Pa.-based AHN Saint Vincent Hospital and AHN Grove City (Pa.) Hospital, effective July 14.

In the U.S., 514 hospitals have a catheter associated urinary tract infection rate of zero, as based on the healthcare-associated infections dataset from CMS. The Healthcare Associated Infections-Hospital database uses measures — developed by the CDC and collected through the National Healthcare Safety Network — that show how often patients contract certain infections during the course of medical treatment. Data was collected from July 2023 to June 2024 and was last updated April 30.

Orlando (Fla.) Health named Michael McLaughlin, MD, chief medical officer of its East Florida Region, Florida Today reported June 20. Dr. McLaughlin will work closely with physicians at Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital and Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital in Sebastian, and practices throughout Brevard and Indian River counties. He will also oversee all medical staff in the region, the report said.

Metairie, La.-based East Jefferson General Hospital, in partnership with Tulane University and LCMC Health, both based in New Orleans, completed its first heart transplant. The procedure was performed through the Tulane University Heart Failure and Transplant Program at East Jefferson, which received authorization to perform heart transplants from the United Network for Organ Sharing in December, according to a June 18 system news release.
