Half of the nation’s top corn-growing states are reporting corn silking, according to the latest USDA Crop Progress report. Overall, 4% of the nation’s crop reached the silking stage during the week ending June 22, which is just ahead of the five-year average of 3%. Eight of the nine states reporting silking are ahead of their five-year averages, and the one that’s not ahead is on track.

Today, USDA published the 12th Crop Progress report of the 2025 growing season. Here’s a look at the latest corn, soybean, wheat, and oat numbers. As of June 22, 97% of the corn crop across the country’s top 18 corn-growing states had emerged. That’s just shy of the five-year average of 98%. The corn crop in Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota has reached 100% emergence, per the report. Together with North Carolina from the week prior, the corn crop in four states has completely emerged.

In its Crop Progress report released Monday, USDA reported that two states had 100% of their soybeans planted as of June 15. Farmers in Minnesota and Louisiana were the first of the top 18 soybean-growing states to have all of their 2025 crop planted. Here’s a closer look at progress and conditions in these two top states. Minnesota soybean growers were the closest to wrapping up soybean planting the week ending June 8 — at that point, 99% of the crop was in the ground.

The country’s winter wheat harvest is well underway, according to the most recent USDA Crop Progress report. As of June 15, nine of the top 18 winter wheat-growing states had begun to harvest the crop. Overall, 10% of the nation’s crop has been harvested, behind the average of 16%. All but two states were behind their respective five-year averages — anywhere from 1 percentage point to 16 percentage points behind.
