VICTOR, Idaho — The summer calendar is already filling up. Music on Main will be back for its 20th summer season, with free Thursday night concerts in Victor City Park from June 19 through Aug. 14 (skipping the Fourth of July holiday week). Set times have been moved up this year, with opening sets beginning at 5:45 p.m. in an effort to keep “pedestrian traffic in as much daylight as possible,” according to the Teton Valley Foundation’s announcement.

JACKSON, Wyo. — Northwestern Wyoming has a shot at seeing the Northern Lights on Tuesday night, April 15, if the clouds and moon cooperate. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center, a coronal mass ejection (CME) was detected by the service on Sunday, April 13. This could lead to a moderate geomagnetic storm, in which the resulting plasma interacts with upper levels of the earth’s atmosphere, generating the aurora.

JACKSON, Wyo. — Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) has kicked off its prescribed burn operations in the Jackson area now that snow is receding. BTNF crews began work on fire operations near Munger Mountain on Thursday, April 10. “Fire managers estimated approximately 45 acres were burned amongst persisting patches of snow, which allowed for a desired mosaic pattern of burned and unburned areas,” BTNF posted to Facebook along with these photos.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Gov. Mark Gordon’s office has announced the appointment of Wyoming Attorney General Bridget Hill to the Wyoming Supreme Court, effective May 28. Hill will fill the vacancy left by Chief Justice Kate Fox, who is retiring. “With her retirement, Chief Justice Fox leaves a singular legacy,” Gordon said in the announcement. “Her tenure has set high standards for the Supreme Court, making this selection from three well-qualified candidates particularly challenging.

JACKSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) has announced the seasonal commencement of grizzly bear research capture operations, conducted along with the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team. WGFD’s announcement stated that capture operations are being planned in “areas of northwest Wyoming beginning this spring and continuing through early fall,” without specifying exact dates or locations.
