On Jan. 2, the University of Alberta became the first Canadian institution to publicly announce a shift from equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) to a new framework of “access, community and belonging.” University leadership described the plan as a more authentic and hopeful vision for what the U of A wants to achieve, while critics argue administrators are placating a provincial government that is targeting EDI initiatives in the public sector.

Before Wendy Pedersen accepted the role of activist-in-residence at Simon Fraser University’s Community-Engaged Research Initiative (CERi) in early 2023, she had mixed feelings regarding the “in residence” component. CERi’s offices are located in a co-working space in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. A decade ago, Ms. Pedersen advocated unsuccessfully for that very location, an old police station, to be converted to social housing.

Leaving home at age 15 to pursue studies is a hard choice, but that’s the path Jean-Pierre Bergevin followed in 1963. After boarding for several years at Université de Hearst – which was Collège de Hearst at the time – he obtained his bachelor’s degree in literature in 1970 and moved to Ottawa for four years to complete a master’s in psychology.

Depuis octobre 2023, l’artiste visuelle fransaskoise Monique Martin propose une exposition immersive itinérante intitulée Breathturn, ou Coup de souffle. Le 3 août dernier, l’artiste de Saskatoon a lancé sa 21e représentation de l’exposition composée d’environ 3 000 pissenlits en papier et de 4 000 papillons sérigraphiés au Centre culturel de Last Mountain Lakeà Regina Beach.
