    A Wood County man found guilty of attempted robbery is going to jail after violating the terms of his community control. Anthony Shrewsbury, 23, Portage, appeared Tuesday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.     A former executive director of a local non-profit has rejected a plea offer and her case is going to trial. Christine Best, 54, Bowling Green, appeared Tuesday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger. Best allegedly stole between $1,000 and $7,500 from the Perrysburg Convention and Visitors Bureau between Jan. 1, 2022, when she started, to Feb. 19, 2024, when she left. She was indicted in July for theft, a fifth-degree felony.

    The Bowling Green Community Foundation presented more than $61,000 in grants Monday night, with uses ranging from water fountains for dogs to children’s learning activities at the Wood County Fair.     After a 30-minute executive session, the Wood County District Public Library Board of Trustees awarded raises to its top administrators. At its December meeting, the board revised Director Michael Penrod’s annual salary to $108,424.99 from $105,780.48. Board member Brian Paskvan praised Penrod’s facility management skills. He pointed out all Penrod has accomplished in 2024, including planning for a new heating plant, a new carriage house, and improvements to the Carter House and its landscaping.
