NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County held its first budget workshop for the upcoming fiscal year Monday morning. County commissioners heard from the election administrator, Vicki Wood, on upgrades the elections office is looking into. NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - The City of Nacogdoches moved forward with water and sewer infrastructure improvement plans at Tuesday’s city council meeting. City Director of Finance Todd Simoneaux explained to the council the total for project cost comes in at over $100 million. The city will provide $40 million in cash into the capital fund project. “The city has been very prudent and diligent, in my opinion, and putting money aside to help fund that capital plan,” said Simoneaux.

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Animal shelters in Deep East Texas provide a safe haven for animals, and in some cases, medical attention. The Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter in Lufkin is asking for the public’s help so they can continue to treat animals in need. “Right now, with school out, we’re starting to see an increase in animals coming in,” said director, Morgan Williams. As of Tuesday, there are over 160 animals waiting to be adopted.

SHELBY COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - A Deep East Texas county wants to preserve its buildings by maintaining them and repurposing them. The Shelby County commissioners brought in Architexas, a construction firm to brainstorm ideas to preserve its buildings.
