It was the perfect industry crash course. If a children’s book was on its way to publication, I either unboxed, shelved, read, or reviewed it. In honor of our centennial, we asked interns from over the years to share their reminiscences. I was a Horn Book intern in early 2020, when the world went on lockdown. I will always be grateful to my colleagues at the Horn Book for extending my time with them instead of ending my internship early.

In honor of our centennial, we asked interns from over the years to share their reminiscences. When I was a Horn Book intern, I opened physical boxes of physical books, shelved those books around the physical Sullivan Square office, and mailed them physically to reviewers or, in the case of extra books, to the Strand Book Store.

In honor of our centennial, we asked interns from over the years to share their reminiscences. I was both an editorial and design intern at the Horn Book in the fall of 2012. It was my last internship before graduating from Emerson College as well as before I started a full-time job in book publishing. The editorial internship taught me a lot about metadata and data input, along with just how many books all children’s publishers put out over the span of several months (so many boxes to open!).
