Pandemic fatigue, the demotivation to follow public health guidelines, emerged early during the COVID-19 pandemic. Psychological distress is known to affect adherence to non-pharmaceutical interventions, but our understanding of how its effects may change over time to produce pandemic fatigue are limited. The role of distress in the emergence of pandemic fatigue is population specific.
