    How often many people forget this. In life various professions get praised and touted as being the best. In a way, these praises follow fads: astronomers when a new planet or astral phenomenon is discovered; chemists when new combinations of chemicals are formulated. There is nothing wrong with this at all! It’s just that God is forgotten in the midst of all the hoopla. God provided those skills and intellectual abilities for those discoveries and progressions.

    Many of us have been thirsty at one time or another. But have you ever been so thirsty that all you could think about was having something to drink? I have. It is a terrible feeling. The tongue becomes dry. The throat feels like sandpaper. The body starts to react in ways it is unaccustomed to. The brain starts to cry out, “When will this horrible feeling end? When will this thirst be quenched?” Satisfaction becomes an obsession. That is how much our souls long for God.

    As we move through life, some of these changes can be anticipated. How we manage these transitions is important in our emotional and spiritual development. Some changes are filled with anxiety. Even though we often can’t name that anxiety, it is still felt. And it causes us to behave in ways that we don’t often understand. We are experiencing a great deal of change in our society – which sometimes gets reflected in our congregations.
