    Many of us have been thirsty at one time or another. But have you ever been so thirsty that all you could think about was having something to drink? I have. It is a terrible feeling. The tongue becomes dry. The throat feels like sandpaper. The body starts to react in ways it is unaccustomed to. The brain starts to cry out, “When will this horrible feeling end? When will this thirst be quenched?” Satisfaction becomes an obsession. That is how much our souls long for God.

Even though we often can’t name that anxiety, it is still felt. And it causes us to behave in ways that we don’t often understand. We are experiencing a great deal of change in our society – which sometimes gets reflected in our congregations.

    Try as he might, he couldn’t get out because the sides were too steep and slippery. He realized he was too far away for anyone to hear his cries for help so he accepted the fact that he was going to have to settle down and spend the night, trusting that someone would find him in the morning. Snuggling into a corner he soon fell asleep. After a short time, another man took the same shortcut through the cemetery and fell into the same open grave. He tried everything he could to get out.

Be right, always right, perfectly right all the time. Be the only one who is right and be rigid about your rightness. Don’t trust or believe people or accept them at anything but their worst and weakest.
