    Recently the European Parliament reached a deal with the Council on rules for trustworthy AI, thereby claiming to have the first comprehensive AI regulation worldwide: a historical and significant step in the regulation of AI and indeed of global significance. The AI Act has many good elements in it. High-risk systems, for example those used to influence voter behaviour in elections, have to undergo a fundamental rights impact assessment. This is important to protect democracy and rule of law.
