Our second winter storm of the week is set to bring the most significant snowfall in more than two years to western Kentucky. It’s not often we get two major winter storms like this in a season, much less in one week. Fortunately though, this system will bring only snow and not the icy mess we had less than a week ago.

It took until Wednesday night for the Milwaukee Brewers to solve the starting pitching of the Chicago Cubs and they did it against their best pitcher in a 10-6 romp at American Family Field. Japanese rookie Shota Imanaga brought a 5-0 record with a 0.84 earned run average into the ballgame but Christian Yelich ripped a 441 foot, two run homer in the first inning off the Chicago ace. Ian Happ hit a solo shot off Brewer starter Bryse Wilson but Milwaukee broke the game open with a five run third.

Celebrated a significant birthday today and ventured out to watch one last Green Bay Packers workout. The word’s been out for a while now but if you haven’t caught wind, I’m retiring as Sports Director for WTAQ, WNFL and WHBL radio at week’s end. Friday will close the curtain on a 45 year run as a full time reporter on the Packer beat. A lot of football.

The opening night of the WIAA Girls State Soccer Tournament Tuesday had the De Pere Redbirds beat the Preble Hornets in a 2-1 thriller on a squishy, soggy pitch at Cloud Family Field. The field was softened by over two inches of rain over the past couple of days and neither team produced much offense in a scoreless first half. Sophomore Olivia Wiernasz gave the Hornets the lead with a 30 yard drive 8 minutes into the second half.
