After declining from its peaks earlier this century, Pennsylvania’s wild turkey population appears to have stabilized — offering hunters some solid opportunities when they head afield in May for spring gobbler season. According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, there were approximately 170,400 spring turkey hunters in 2024 and they harvested 39,268 birds. Keystone State deer hunters had a banner 2024-25, harvesting 476,880 whitetails, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s estimate. The harvest is notable because it’s the fourth-highest of all time and for the first time ever, archery hunters took more bucks than firearms hunters. Game Commission estimates released March 28 show this license year’s harvest was up approximately 11% over 2023-24, when 430,010 deer were taken.
