    I'll tell you what we've lost, the sense that the citizens of this nation own their own country. Perhaps that feeling of disconnection dates back to our membership of the European Union, and the idea that there are wider forces, a greater authority, that rule over us and determines our destiny. It was certainly a desire to control the borders, restore sovereignty and “get our country back” that led to Brexit.

It was our expensively dressed Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, addressing an expectant nation from Pinewood Film Studios. How appropriate Pinewood, given how wooden this performance was, still wearing the proceeds of a high end shopping spree with Lord Ali, a Besuited prime minister, compared himself to a film franchise which put Pinewood on the map James Bond.

    A senior cabinet minister resigns for a historic fraud conviction. You’ve got a chancellor, that stands accused of lying on her CV, wages war on farmers and pensioners and pushes the country close to recession. You've got a prime minister that doesn’t buy his own clothes or glasses – is basically Taylor Swift’s stalker - and complains about open borders, whilst blocking every move, to reduce numbers and axing the Rwanda plan. You've got a sitting Labour MP calling for blasphemy laws.

    Oh, dear. It's been reported by the excellent Guido Fawkes website that the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, lied on her CV, claiming to have been an economist at Halifax Bank when it turns out she worked in the complaints department. Well, getting angry complaints is something she'll need to get used to given her Budget for growth has proved about as unpopular as a Prince Andrew backstage meet and greets.
