Forecast confidence is increasing for a light to moderate snow event from the Mid-Atlantic to New England this weekend. The long weekend will start with a cold front moving into the eastern U.S. on Saturday. This front will bring rain and snow showers to the eastern third of the country, with most of the snow being limited to the higher elevations of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

The hits just keep coming across the southern Plains, with activity stretching further east into the Mississippi Valley tonight. Today will be the third day in a row that parts of Oklahoma and northern Texas see rounds of heavy rain and severe storms, with storm activity well underway this morning. A slow-moving cold front will finally push the heavy rain and storms eastward later today into tonight.

A potent storm system and its cold front will generate gusty winds across a large portion of the central U.S. on Saturday. The system will quickly zip across the Northwest today and tonight, where it will wring out most of its moisture. Very little in the way of rainfall is expected in the central U.S. on Saturday, but the disturbance will be wrapped up enough to cause strong winds.

A disturbance advancing eastward across the Northern Tier will trigger storms throughout today. Strong heat and humidity will provide plenty of fuel for additional storm formation across the Midwest and Great Lakes through tonight. The greatest concentration of storms will likely be near the system's cold front, which will be draped from the central Plains to the Upper Great Lakes.

A developing disturbance will be responsible for several days of severe weather from the Plains to the East Coast. Over the course of the next few days, a large upper-level trough will strengthen as it moves eastward from the northern Rockies to the Midwest and Great Lakes. As it interacts with warm and humid air, pockets of strong to severe storms will develop this afternoon through tonight.
