INTRODUCTION The prevalence of obesity has risen sharply since the 1990s due to environmental factors such as reduced physical activity and increased availability of highly palatable energy-dense foods (Speakman, 2007). However, overfeeding studies in twins suggest that there is a genetic component to the risk of obesity (Bouchard et al., 1990).
