The Grenfell Tower fire that killed 72 people was a result of “dishonest” companies and a lack of strategy by the fire service, according to the final report of the six-year public inquiry. The 1,700 page document reveals that management and regulation around high-rise building has been lacking since 1990. It cited the coalition and Tory Governments that ignored concerns around safety practices.

A pedestrian walkway has collapsed at a residents’ block in Naples, killing two people and injuring 13. The two victims – a 29-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman – died when the walkway partially collapsed at the housing estate in Scampia, in Southern Italy. The incident took place overnight with firefighters working to evacuate approximately 800 residents. Those injured were taken to the Santobono hospital in Naples, where two of are in a serious condition.

The recent EHS Congress covered communication, community and (fast) cars. SHP Editor Mark Glover travelled to Germany. EHS Congress 2024 in Berlin played out to over 300 people over two days, representing over 190 organisations. Chaired as ever by Andrew Sharman, the two-day event had over 40 hours of sessions, with an array of workshops splintering off with the likes of Diane Chadwick-Jones and Sydney Dekker. A highlight of the first morning was Dr Gerd Gigerenzer.

To identify prognostic factors associated with a delayed return-to-sport (RTS) time in amateur athletes who return to full participation after a primary isolated anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. A retrospective review was performed among athletes who underwent ACL reconstruction between October 2014 and October 2021. Inclusion criteria were any amateur athletes with an ACL reconstruction who had a documented RTS and greater than 1-year follow-up.
