Broadway had a playoff berth pretty much wrapped up before playing Harrisonburg on Friday night, but head coach Danny Grogg wanted his team to make a statement. The Gobblers scored early and often and rolled past the Blue Streaks 63-0 in Valley District action at Dr. Walter F. Green III Field. “We wanted to leave no doubt tonight that we were a playoff team,” said Grogg.

HARRISONBURG -- Rocktown head coach Curtis Cherebin was a happy camper on Friday and he had every reason to be. The Raptors put forth their best effort of the season and rolled past Stonewall Jackson 63-0 in a non-district game. One of the players that made his coach smile was Demetrius Arrington. All the sophomore did was score five touchdowns on the night, including an interception return for a score and finished the night with 167 yards on 12 carries.

Turner Ashby scored early and often en route to a lopsided 55-0 win over city/county rival Harrisonburg in Valley District action on the road on Friday. Senior running back Beau Baylor was everywhere at Dr. Walter F. Green III Field as he was a scoring threat each time he touched the ball for the Knights. The TA standout scored three times in the first quarter on runs of 1 and 10 yards, along with a 63-yard punt return.

It has been almost two years since Rockbridge County has won a game, entering Friday’s matchup with Harrisonburg on a 17-game losing streak. After falling behind by double digits early, the Wildcats used a balanced attack and a ball control offense over the final three periods to defeat the Blue Streaks 26-17 in a Valley District football game at Dr. Walter F. Green III Field.

SHENANDOAH — Rocktown head coach Curtis Cherebin could see it coming. The Raptors had been improving each week of their inaugural season and the hard work finally paid dividends Friday as they earned the first win in school history with a 52-30 triumph over Page County in a wild non-district game at Buddy Comer Stadium. Standout running back Demetrius Arrington led the way for Rocktown, rushing 18 times for 173 yards and three touchdowns.

ELKTON — For the second straight week, Central and East Rockingham found themselves in a defensive battle that came down to who would score last. The Falcons got a big fourth-down touchdown pass midway through the final quarter that lifted them to a 14-7 non-district win over the Eagles in Elkton on Friday. With 5:41 left to play in the final period and the game knotted at 7-7, Central had a fourth down at the East Rockingham 11.

A new era of high school sports in the city began Friday night as Rocktown hosted Hedgesville, W.Va. in the Raptors' inaugural game. The home team played hard and provided a lot of fireworks during the first half, but it was the Eagles who pulled away in the second half en route to a 36-13 non-district win over Rocktown. "We played hard, it was a good effort but we beat ourselves," said Raptors' coach Curtis Cherebim.
Gobblers Down Alleghany In 3C Quarterfinals

BROADWAY — It was a big surge in the third inning for third-seeded Broadway Wednesday that propelled the Gobblers to a 7-3 win over sixth-seeded Alleghany in the Region 3C softball quarterfinals at BHS. The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Bryce Leitch led off with a single, Laken Cantrell followed with a double and Kaylee Nicely drove in both to start the scoring. Alleghany starter Addyson Neff kept Broadway at bay for the first two innings. But in the third, the Gobblers came alive.
