Articles about AI risks tend to be: sensationalist tropes (the robots from the future are coming to kill us - follow me if you want to live) hype-busters (ooh, LLMs hallucinate as much as humans do) worries about bias (ooh, LLMs share the prejudices of the data they were trained on as much as humans do) However, we shouldn't get carried away by these risks to the extent we treat ML deployments as "a different category" from any other deployment.

Something that’s been on my mind a lot are Dollar General stores. As of this writing, I only just learned that my hometown of Crossville will apparently be getting itself a second Dollar General store. To be specific, a Dollar General Market. That’s what I’m told anyway by high-ranking town officials including the mayor and one of the servers at the local café.

April 15th rolls around this weekend, the day that would normally be Tax Day. This year, however, Tax Day is actually on April 18th because April 15th falls on a weekend and the next weekday is recognized as Emancipation Day in Washington, D.C.So, if you still haven’t gotten those taxes filed just yet, worry not – you still have (checks watch) time, but you might want to book that appointment with your tax preparer sooner rather than later.
