And then there were four. The NFL’s version of the Final Four is set and matches Washington at Philadelphia in the NFC and Buffalo at Kansas City in the AFC. The Commanders are the new darling of the playoffs, with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels playing beyond his years and leading Washington to the NFC title game for the first time since 1992. They are 5-1 in conference title games.

Now the big boys come out to play. It’s divisional weekend of the NFL playoffs and with it comes the Lions and Chiefs to remind everybody who the favorites are to play in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. Both No. 1 seeds needed the week off to rest up from injury-filled seasons and get healthier. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes battle a sprained ankle while the Lions have numerous defensive injuries but expect to get running back David Montgomery back.

The NFL playoffs are here, starting this weekend with the wild-card round. My preseason Super Bowl LIX prediction is still in play and looking solid: Lions over Ravens. The MVP race is over and I’ll venture forth with Bills quarterback Josh Allen for taking a no-name receiving group and turning it into a powerhouse offense. He and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson are my top two picks and this should be a close race. As for this weekend, I’m looking for five home wins and a road win by the Chargers.

The Bears’ soap opera hit a high note after the Thanksgiving Day timeout fiasco as coach Matt Eberflus was fired. There really was no choice, and none too soon. The list of Bears coaching failures was growing weekly and the team’s confidence in Eberflus was dwindling. The team must prioritize the maturation of QB Caleb Williams the rest of the season. In a 52-6 thrashing of Jacksonville last week, the Lions set franchise records for margin of victory (46 points) and yards gained (645).
