Appeared in print as "A November-Like Property Peek" The only problem with early spring is it looks like late fall, except you don’t get to bowhunt whitetails. The landscape looks glum with its leafless environment, brown and gray façade, and the occasional snow drift tucked away on a north slope still waiting for a strong ray of spring sunshine to conquer its winter dominance. With all this playing out on your whitetail hunting property, overcoming a bad case of cabin fever becomes almost...

Imitation may be flattering, but for coyote hunting you need to blend it with imagination and a sincere dose of intelligence, especially for late-winter coyotes. By imitating a combination of coyote vocalizations, you send a message of confidence, confrontation and even a snapshot of Cupid’s magic. I began introducing vocalizations into my coyote setups at least three decades ago. The good thing about coyote vocalizations is that they do not have an expiration date.

Appeared in print as "The Coyote Waiting Game" Are American attention spans decreasing, leading to speedier shifts from one focus to another? I’d say yes, and depending on the research, studies do indicate that since the explosion in screen-time motivation, attention span has diminished. The “them” in question were two tom turkeys racing to our calls from more than 1,500 yards away from our current position. Buffeting winds silenced their return gobbles, but through the power of a 10-power binocular I could see them stop and return a wind-muted gobble to my calls. Although the show was great, I knew we would have to find cover to call the gobblers into shotgun range.

Not again, I thought as the coyote parked himself 600-yards away searching the landscape for a view of the sound makers he heard from afar. Of course, I was the sound maker. I was creating a choregraphed drama of dying critters along with a gleeful coyote celebrating with yips. A few more sound nudges would not budge the bystander coyote and soon it bored of the show and left. I did the same soon after.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Have a blessed Easter and may your Easter egg hunts be unforgettable.  #easter https://t.co/bdJtXZUTih
