Scout Troop 5 will hold a bingo event February 15th at 2pm. The cost will be $10 for the first card and $5 for each additional card. The bingo will be held at the Harlan Scout Center at Lake Huckabee in Fair Park. The park address is 800 Mockingbird Lane in Hope. All proceeds will go to send scouts to Colorado this summer. The public is invited.

The Hope Lions Club heard from Anna Powell and Brandi Tuttle of the Hempstead County Economic Deveopment Corporation on Monday (1-27). Powell, the President of the EDC, first showed a video the organization uses for promotional purposes. The video can be seen at edc.hopeusa.com. Powell explained the EDC partners with the city of Hope, Hempstead County, and Hope Water & Light. The organization also has about 30 other investors which included businesses and individuals.

The Hope Housing Authority Board met in the conference room at their Headquarters on Texas Street on Thursday (1-23). The meeting started with the approval of the day’s agenda and approval of the minutes from the last meeting. For old business, Resolution #24/12-5C, the family pet rule, was tabled as there will need to be public notice and a public hearing before the board can approve it.

Vendors, a “pop-up shop”, and a fashion show were held in the Fair Park Coliseum on Saturday (1-18). This was part of the local celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther Kind holiday. The vendors included herbal remedies and seasoning, fashion attire, wigs, jewelry, barbecue, sweets, and a food truck as well as an author. More than one vendor had been creating what they were selling for many years. One vendor has been doing jewelry for 60 years.

The Hope Kiwanis Club heard from District Engineer William Cheatham and Construction Engineer Jeremy Thomas of the local office of the Arkansas Department of Transportation. Thomas gave a rundown of current jobs in Hempstead. There are three currently active. Thomas talked first about a $2.99 million dollar job by McGeorge Contracting to replace 3 bridges on highway 195 south of Blevins. These bridges will be replaced with box culverts.
