Once a go-to term for teamwork and common purpose, "society" is now a no-no for the snobbery police. Next month, the Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Society International will unite under a new name, the Humane World for Animals. "It's strong, it's memorable, and perfectly captures who we are and what we're striving to achieve," said the animal welfare organization's chief executive, Kitty (yes, Kitty) Block, announcing the change at a New York gala in November.

LONDON - Country Living magazine's U.K. edition marked this festive season with an article offering "22 British Christmas traditions and their meanings." The list included mince pies, mulled wine and other treats but noted, "For most of us, it's not officially Christmas until we've put up our tree and decorated it."Unofficially, it's not Christmas in Britain until everyone starts lashing out at comically forlorn approximations of holiday trees on public display.

LONDON — Last week, I attended a screening of “#NOVA,” a new documentary about the trance-music festival where Hamas terrorists killed more than 360 people and took as many as 40 hostages during the Oct. 7 rampage in Israel. The film, without narration, is composed almost entirely of evidence from the phones of festivalgoers and video taken by the terrorists. It unfolds like many a horror movie, with young people reveling in their freedom and having fun, oblivious to the monster stalking them.
