Ripley takes round one of basketball version of the Hatchet

RIPLEY, W.Va. (WV News) - There's nothing quite like a Holiday treat. And those checking out the latest installment of the first of two battles this basketball season between Ravenswood and Ripley were treated to quite the game Friday night. The two programs ended the 2024 phase of their seasons inside the Ripley Health Center with the Vikings holding off the visiting Runnin' Red Devils, 55-51. Ripley improved to 3-2 with the win while Ravenswood falls to 4-2.
Mullins excited about latest season of Viking basketball

RIPLEY, W.Va. (WV News) - Players will listen to Derek Mullins. And they should. First of all, because he knows how to coach. And as a still very young head boys' basketball coach, he can illustrate what needs to be done. Mullins played the game of basketball and baseball at a high level. There's a reason why he was named "Athlete of the Year" in 2011. Mullins later went on to play college baseball for West Virginia State University. He's excited about this season of 2024-25.

“With all the Harris’ Sparrows around this fall I figured Goose Pond would be one of the best Columbia County locations to find my ‘county lifer,’” wrote Aaron Holschbach in his eBird report from Oct. 12. He identified one adult Harris’s Sparrow north of Prairie Lane before finding a second immature bird nearby. The next day, Michael Putnam submitted an eBird report with excellent descriptions of two immature Harris’s Sparrows.

My sister, Christy, and I would go and stay for two weeks. Now my grandmother Blanche worked in downtown Houston for the telephone company. She would get up, walk down the block to catch the city bus: the 40 Pecore. Blanche worked from 4 a.m. to noon. Elmore worked from 4 pm to midnight at the First National Bank downtown Houston.
