The Warren County Fire Services held its annual crawfish boil on Saturday and awarded several responders for excellent service. Awards were given out to the responders who took the most calls. Mitch Lange and Zach Hearn tied for receiving 119 calls. Chuck Tate received an award for taking 129 calls. Marquise Holmes received an award for taking 139 calls. A Lifetime Member award was given to Shane Greene for his dedication to WCFS.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Blacks in Government, the Vicksburg branch of the NAACP, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the Alpha Phi Alpha Sorority sponsored a Meet the Candidates forum for the vacant Ward One Alderman position. Nine of the ten qualified candidates were present at the Thursday night event held at the Warren County Courthouse.

The Vicksburg Warren School District held its monthly board meeting on Thursday. Several items were discussed, including the school district’s use of stay interviews. While most companies conduct exit interviews for employees leaving the company, the school district wants to conduct interviews with those currently employed with VWSD. These interviews allow the superintendent to see the motivations behind employees’ desire to stay employed in the school district.

The City of Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen recognized two long-term employees at its meeting on Monday. Mayor George Flaggs recognized Derrick Holt, a captain for the Vicksburg Fire Department, for 25 years of service. Dewayne Smith, an officer for the Vicksburg Police Department, was recognized for his 25 years of service. The board meeting also included some new hires filling in vacancies for key roles.
