KENDALLVILLE — Once again, the boys golf season is going to last a little longer at Fremont. The Eagles shot 300 on the dot to take third place in the East Noble Sectional at Noble Hawk Friday and earned their second straight team regional berth with the top three teams advancing. Fremont will head to the Warsaw Regional at Stonehenge Thursday. “It’s nice to come back and do it again. It’s always hard to do it the second time,” Fremont coach Nick Herndon said. “I’m over-the-moon happy with this.

ALBION — Confidence when they had the lead, confidence when they didn't. Central Noble's softball girls are no stranger to close games, and were unflappable as they came from behind for a 4-3 victory over South Adams and the Class 2A regional championship Tuesday, the first in school history. The Cougars (24-6) will play in the semi-state at Kokomo Saturday at 1 p.m. against Rossville.

ALBION — Taking one lead in extra innings wasn't going to be enough for Westview against Lakeland in Monday's Class 2A baseball sectional final at Central Noble. It took the Warriors pushing across three more runs in the ninth inning to go ahead for good on their way to a 4-1 victory that gave them their third straight sectional title. "I'm just really proud of our guys to just battle," Westview coach Jason Rahn said. "That is a great game. You hate to see a team go home with a loss.

GARRETT — The favorites on paper may have won, but it was anything but black and white. Leo and Bishop Dwenger were the semifinal winners in the Class 3A baseball sectional at Garrett Saturday. The Lions needed a two-out, two-strike home run from senior Luke MacDonald in the bottom of the seventh to take a thrilling 8-7 victory over East Noble. Bishop Dwenger saw an early four-run lead disappear and fell behind against Angola before rallying past the upstart Hornets for a 12-7 win.

GARRETT — Senior-itis didn't figure in for Angola Thursday night. One of only five Hornet seniors, Brady Warren pitched a three-hit shutout, extending Angola's season with a 3-0 win over Concordia in the Class 3A sectional at Garrett. Warren struck out seven and pitched out of a jam in the seventh after the first two Cadets reached base and the tying run was at the plate. He ended it on back-to-back K's. "You've got two types of seniors when it gets to this point," Angola coach Clint Davis said.
